Kelly Beck begins his second season as an assistant track and field and cross country coach at Pacific University after spending 25 years at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. He is a USATF Level Two Certified Endurance coach.
He serves as the Boxers' lead assistant for the men’s and women’s teams in both sports. Beck, who was CMS’s Sports Information Director for 18 years, is also involved with the operations of the sports information office, serving as the primary contact for both the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.
While at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, he was the interim head coach of the Stags and Athenas program in 2014-15 and was the assistant coach for both the cross country and track and field teams for 24 years prior to that. Additionally, he served as the USTFCCCA West Region women’s cross country representative during that time, was also the NCAA Division III track and field historian, and served on the Division III Hall of Fame committee.
Beck graduated from Harvey Mudd College in 1990 with a degree in Engineering and earned his Master of Sport Science degree in Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy in 1992. At CMS, he was a four-year member of the cross country and track and field programs. He and his wife Kathy have two sons, Kevin - a 2015 graduate of UCLA and Ryan - a senior at UC San Diego.
If Beck’s name rings a bell in Pacific circles, it may be because his father Thomas Beck was Pacific’s Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1991-2003. Kelly’s brother Erik graduated from Pacific in 1996 and was married on campus.
