Alex Carlson brings the experience of a Division I assistant coach and the skills of playing for one of the nation’s premier NAIA programs to the Pacific basketball program.
Carlson is in his third season as a Pacific men’s basketball assistant coach. He serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator and is also responsible for opponent scouting and coaching the program’s post players.
In addition, Carlson has also picked up additional duties this season as an assistant coach with the Pacific women’s basketball program, where he will specialize in working with the program’s post players.
Carlson followed Head Men’s Basketball Coach Tim Cleary from Boise State, where he spent two seasons as a student assistant coach. While in Boise, Carlson spent two seasons coaching the Idaho Select AAU program. Prior to moving to Idaho, Carlson spent two seasons as the head girls’ basketball coach at his hometown Culver High School.
Carlson’s coaching career follows an All-American career with the powerhouse NAIA Division II Oregon Tech program in Klamath Falls under the legendary Dan Miles. A four-year letterwinner for the Hustlin’ Owls, Carlson was named Honorable Mention All-American and First Team All-Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) after helping lead Oregon Tech to the 2003-04 NAIA Division II national championship. Carlson was selected Honorable Mention All-CCC after helping lead the Owls back to the 2005 NAIA Final Four.
Carlson ranks No. 3 on the Oregon Tech all-time rebounds list, 10th in career points with 1,341 and is one of 24 Hustlin’ Owls to score over 1,000 career points.
A native of Culver, Carlson received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Oregon Tech in 2005 and earned a second bachelor’s degree in general education from Boise State in 2010. He and his wife, Courtney, are the proud parents of a son, Jakob (2).
