Assisting the Pacific women’s basketball program for the first time in 2015-16 is Kori Sakamoto.
Sakamoto’s duties include practice planning, team travel and opponent scouting.
A Pacific graduate, Sokomoto returns to campus after serving as a graduate assistant at Gonzaga under Coach Lisa Fortier, who was the recipient of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I Rookie Coach of the Year Award. The team (2014-15) finished the season 26-8, won the West Coast Conference regular-season championship, and made a NCAA tournament appearance into the Sweet Sixteen round.
A native of Hanapepe, Hawaii, she attended Waimea High School on the island of Kaua’i where she lettered in basketball four seasons.
Sakamoto earned a bachelors degree in exercise science (2013) from Pacific and gained a master’s degree at Gonzaga in sport and athletic administration (2015).
While going to school at Pacific she served as a basketball coach through the Forest Grove Basketball program.
Currently, when not on campus, Sakamoto works with Mentor Oregon, helping teach life skills to children with disabilities in Washington County. She lives in Beaverton.
