Devin VansCoy joins the Pacific program this season a volunteer coach for the Pacific cross country and track and field programs.  This is VansCoy’s first experience as a collegiate coach.

VansCoy brings distance running experience to Forest Grove from both the high school and Division III levels.  A four-year varsity cross country and track and field athlete at Central Elkader High School in Elkader, Iowa, VansCoy competed as a member of 3,200-meter relay teams that finished third at the Iowa state championships in 2002 and 2003.  He was also a two-time state meet competitor in the mile.

In cross country, VansCoy was a member of two Central Ekander teams to compete at the Iowa state meet, topped by a fifth place team finish in 2000.

VansCoy was a three-year cross country athlete and two-year track athlete at Division III Loras College in Decorah, Iowa.  An injury-shorted career was highlighted by his work to help Loras to a 15th place finish at the 2003 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.

Since his arrival in the west, VansCoy has put much of his competitive energy into triathlon.  He was ranked No. 5 in the Triathlon Northwest rankings in both 2009 and 2010.  He competed for Team Dean in 2011 and won the Western Oregon Sprint Triathlon.  VansCoy also finished a half Ironman competition in 2010 with the second fastest overall bike split among all non-professional competitors.

VansCoy graduated from Loras in 2008 with a degree in physical education and a minor in health.  He earned his master’s degree in education from Willamette in 2012 and earned an endorsement in special education in 2011.
