Lucas is in his sixth season as the Boxers' head coach after 13 seasons at the helm for the Boise State Broncos.

Best season under Lucas came in his second season leading the Boxers as the team posted a 7-10-3 record going 5-9-2 in the Northwest Conference. His first season saw the team post a 4-14-2 record. During his tenure six players have earned All-NWC honors and 57 athletes earned NWC scholar-athlete honors. 

Lucas was the head coach for the Broncos for 13 seasons, leading his team to the conference tournament ten times in the Big West, Western Athletic and Mountain West Conferences. Boise State won the WAC tournament in 2009 and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

The Broncos were semi-finalists in the WAC tourney in 2007, 2008 and 2010. He was named the WAC Coach of the Year in 2003. His career mark in Boise was 111-116-28. Additionally, his Bronco teams produced 105 academic all-conference awards and four national academic honors. He also spent three years as an assistant with the Broncos.

He spent three seasons as an assistant at his alma mater, Southern New Hampshire. Overall Lucas has over 20 years of coaching experience, including stints with Indie Chicas, FC Nova, and Les Bois United, all in Boise. He has also been a guest clinician in Nova Scotia.

As a player, he was a member of two national championships teams—one at NCAA Division II New Hampshire College (1989) and one at NCAA Division I Clemson (1987).

Lucas earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University).Â
