An experience throws competitor and coach for much of his life, Dan Taylor returns for his second season as Pacific’s throws coach.  He will have particular focus on the discus, shot put and hammer.
 
Previous to coming to the Pacific staff, Taylor spent two seasons working with throwers at Forest Grove High School.
 
A lifelong competitor in the throws, Taylor set the Southern Oregon Conference (SOC) record in the discus and was the conference champion in the shot put while competing for Crater High School.  He went on to finish third at the 1971 Oregon state meet in the discus.
 
Taylor matriculated to Brigham Young University, where he competed for two years under 1972 discus silver medalist and four-time world champion Jay Silvester.  Since 1995, Taylor has been active on the master’s track and field circuit and has competed at the State Games of Oregon in the discus, shot put and weight throw.
 
In addition, Taylor has developed a significant list of accolades competing in Scottish Highland Games events.  He has three top-four finishes at the Highland Games Master’s World Championships and has won his division at the Portland Highland Games eight times.  He holds numerous Portland Highland Games records and set five master’s division field record at the 2006 North American Scottish Highland Games Championships.
 
A native of Central Point, Ore., Taylor earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Brigham Young and a master’s degree in education from Eastern Oregon.  Taylor resides in Forest Grove with his wife, Mary.
