Ryan Huntersimms is in his fifth year as the Head Track and Field Coach at Pacific University. This will be his ninth season as a member of the cross country and track and field coaching staff. He primarily coaches the hurdles, vertical jumps, and multi events.
Pacific Track and Field is coming off the 2025 season which marked another historic year for the Boxers. At the Northwest Conference Championships, Huntersimms coached Allyson Hammond (100m) to an individual Northwest Conference Championship win. Along with her win earning all conference honors in the 200m. Along with Hammond, Mikell Adler earned All-Conference honors in the 110m Hurdles, both also receiving All-Region recognition. Huntersimms coached Allyson Hammond to an exceptional year, indoors where Hammond finished national runner-up finish in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships, clocking 8.50 seconds—a mark that ranks among the top 10 all-time in NCAA DIII history. Hammond continued her dominance into the outdoor season, qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships where she placed 5th nationally in the 100m hurdles. Over the course of the year, she set six new school records in the 60m, 60m hurdles, 100m, 100m hurdles, and the (indoor/outdoor) 200m, further solidifying her place among the program’s all-time greats.
In 2024, the Boxers enjoyed unprecedented success. At the Northwest conference championships, the women’s program finished third, The highest program finish since 1973 when they won. Huntersimms’ coached Emily Rutkowski (400m Hurdles) to an individual Northwest Conference Championship win. Seventeen school records were set: Allyson Hammond (100m hurdles,100m, (indoor/outdoor) 200m, (indoor/outdoor) Long Jump, 60m hurdles, 60m), indoor W. 4x400m, Annie Berry (indoor 800m), Emily Rutkowski (indoor 400m), Men’s 4x100m, Henry Tierney (mile, 800m), Lucas Dahl (60m, indoor 200m). Henry Tierney finished off the year qualifying for the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the 800m. He finished in 13th place, securing second team All America Honors.
In 2023, Huntersimms’ send year as Head Coach, the men’s program finished fourth, scoring the most points in school history at the Northwest Conference Championships. Six school records were set: Allyson Hammond (long jump and 60m), Annie Berry (800m), Angelica Gatica Gomez ((i) 400m), Dominic Funk (Javelin), and the Men’s 4x100m. Funk placed third at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field National championships in the javelin. Huntersimms coached Emily Rutkowski (400m hurdles) and Allyson Hammond (long jump) to individual Northwest Conference Championships success.
In 2022, Huntersimms’ first year as Head Coach, Dominic Funk reached the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the javelin for the second straight season and Maddy Hubbs won the 3,000m steeplechase at the Northwest Conference Championships.
In the 2021, Huntersimms coached two athletes to All-American honors. Brooke France and Dominic Funk both qualified for the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the javelin. France took fourth place and Funk finished eighth. Funk was also runner-up in the javelin at the 2021 Northwest Conference Championships.
In 2019, Huntersimms and the Pacific track and field program had its first individual NCAA national champion with Brooke France taking home the title in the javelin. France entered the competition as the 12th-ranked competitor before ascending to the top of the podium with her first throw of the finals. She was joined at the NCAA Championships by Emily Sproul, who wrapped up her career with four NCAA Championship appearances. Both France and Sproul earned all-Northwest Conference and all-USTFCCCA honors to lead the Boxers. Joining France and Sproul on the outdoor all-region team were fellow throwers Josh Huffman in the shot put and discus, Jason Draper in the hammer, Jacob DuVall in the discus as well as Karen Du in the shot put and discus. At the NWC Championships, the men were third and the women finished fourth. The Boxers also secured 16 spots on the podium during the weekend, including seven individual NWC event champions.
In his first season, in 2018, Huntersimms was involved in the efforts that landed five Boxers all-region honors on the outdoor circuit from the USTFCCCA. Plus, a pair - Karen Du (shot put) and Dianna Church (weight throw) each set new indoor school records. Jacob DuVall (discus), Jason Draper (hammer), Karen Du (shot put) and Dianna Church (hammer) secured NWC individual championships.
As a student-athlete at the University of Oregon, Huntersimms was a four-year letterwinner and the first discus thrower in 30 years to win a conference title and qualify for the NCAA Track and Field Championships. He finished 11th at the 2017 USATF Outdoor Championships in the discus. He also scored key points for the team, where he was a member of five Pac-12, NCAA Division I Indoor and Outdoor Championship teams. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon.
