Pacific Swimmers Win A Set of Duals

FOREST GROVE—The Pacific swim teams picked up a set of dual wins each over the weekend against the College of Idaho Coyotes. The women won 107-70 on Saturday and 109-62 on Sunday. The men won 100-65 and 102-57 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Laura Ross (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) led the women swimming a leg in a winning relay and winning five individual events over the weekend. On Saturday, Ross won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.21, the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.55 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:32.01. She returned to the pool on Sunday joined by Cherice Cochrane (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.), Alex Bing* (Fr., Roseburg, Ore.) and Keely Craig (Fr., Federal Way, Wash.) and won the first event of the day, the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:21.51. Ross then continued on, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.69 and the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:19.92.

Four other Boxers, Allison Clark (So., Keizer, Ore.), Cochrane, Craig and Bonnie Rose Caroll (Fr., Eugene, Ore.), also claimed multiple wins over the weekend. On Saturday, Clark beat the field by 13 seconds as she won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:46.83 and on Saturday, she won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.42 and 200-yard breaststroke.

Cochrane won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.25 and was joined by Bing, Nicole Koch (So., Longmont, Colo.) and Craig in the winning 200-yard medley relay finishing in a time of 1:58.37. On Sunday, she won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.79. Craig won two individual events on Saturday, the 50-yard freestyle in 26.62 and the 100-yard freestyle in 57.02. Carroll added her two individual wins on Sunday in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 19:22.81, over a minute faster than the second place finisher, and the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:21.84.

Michael Hargitt* (Fr., Oregon City, Ore.) led the men with four individual wins and Dylan Cramer (So., Caldwell, Idaho) added three individual wins and a relay win. Hargitt won just one race on Saturday, the 400-yard individual medley in 4:23.06. He came back on Sunday winning all three of his races, the 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.67, the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.87 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:23.03. Cramer won two individual events on Saturday, the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:49.77 and the 500-yard freestyle in a record-setting 5:01.95. On Sunday, he started the day winning the 400-yard medley relay with Luke Fuller (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.), Scott Kimura (Sr., McMinnville, Ore.) and Ben Griffin (Sr., Tacoma, Wash.) in a time of 3:54.83 and finished the day winning the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:03.94.

Joel Cowley (Jr., Portland, Ore.), Michael Simmonds (Fr., Sweet Home, Ore.) and Alejandro Contreras (Sr., Silverton, Ore.) also picked up individual wins for Pacific. Cowley started the weekend joined by Fuller, Contreras and Kimura in the winning 200-yard medley relay finishing in a time of 1:44.71. He then won the 100-yard backstroke in 55.42 and followed up on Sunday winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.90. Simmonds won the 1,000-yard freestyle on Saturday in 10:54.30 and the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:57.05 on Sunday. Contreras won the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday in a time of 50.35.

Both teams improve to a 2-4 dual record and will return to the pool on Friday to play host to the Willamette Bearcats. At the meet, Pacific will recognize the four seniors for their contributions to Pacific swimming.
