COOS BAY, Ore. – Pacific received bonus-point victories from three wrestlers Saturday night, but Southwestern Oregon CC gained the upper hand in the closer matches as the Lakers took a 26-17 victory from the Boxers in men's wrestling action at Prosper Gym.

Eric Harder (Jr., Bethesda, Md.) and Chris Harlin (Sr., Issaquah, Wash.) surged to technical fall victories while Ryan Baxter (Jr., Craig, Alaska) won by major decision.  The Lakers, however, succeeded in matching the Boxers and then took the majority of the closer matches to take the team victory.

Matthew Nguyen gave SWOCC the early 6-0 lead with his pin of Lucas Beltz (Fr., Wilmot, N.H.) at 125 pounds.  Harder recovered from a stunning sudden-pin victory the night before to steamroll Lucas Garza by technical fall at 133 pounds, running his record to 16-3 on the season.

Matt Gay took the five points right back for the Lakers, scoring his own technical fall at 141 pounds over Jeremiah Baker (Fr., Portland, Ore.).  Baxter made it an 11-9 match with a 9-1 major decision over Aaron Villarin, improving the junior to 14-6 on the year.

The next three matches were all decided by six points or less, but all fell in favor of the Lakers.  Tyler Strenke was a 7-1 winner over Shawn Speer (So., Battle Ground, Wash.) at 157 pounds before Andrew Orr succeeded in snapping Bruce Balcita's (Sr., Myrtle Creek, Ore.) seven-match win streak with a 7-5 decision at 165 pounds.

Mikey Ayala made it a 20-9 SWOCC lead with his 6-2 decision over Michael Tyner (Jr., Aloha, Ore.) at 174 pounds.  Caleb Malychewski (Sr., Camas, Wash.) broke up the Lakers' run, scoring a 7-3 decision in the 184-pound bout over Kolbjorn Skaflestad to improve to 16-2 on the year with his eight straight victory.

Harlin brought the Boxers to within 20-17 in the 197-pound bout, dominating Trevor Davis with a 16-1 technical fall.  Teran Reedy, however, secured the win for the Lakers with his pin of Joey Norcia (So., Santa Ynez, Calif.) at heavyweight.

With the loss, Pacific dropped to 4-5 in dual matches on the year.  Southwestern Oregon CC improved to 3-4.

Pacific returns home to the Stoller Center next Friday, hosting Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) for a dual at 7 p.m.  The match can be seen via a live video webcast at GoBoxers.com.
