PARKLAND, Wash. — Playing the top two teams in the Northwest Conference in consecutive days, on the road, proved to be a bit too much for the Pacific Boxer women's soccer team.
The Boxers, who lost in a tight battle to Willamette on Saturday (1-0), just didn't have enough left in the tank against first place and No. 21 nationally ranked Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, falling to the Lutes 5-0 in front of 193 at East Field.
PLU picked up its tenth win of the season (10-1-1) and stayed on top of the NWC standings at 6-1-1. The Boxers dropped to 2-9-1 overall and to 2-5-1 in conference play.
Five different Lutes got into the scoring column and goalkeeper Takara Mitsui earned the shutout with four saves. Boxer
Kililani Kunitomo had five saves as the Lutes outshot Pacific 16-9.
"There were a lot of lessons to be taken from the game today," said Pacific head coach
Morgan Joseph. "We are perfectly capable of cleaning up our play, both in the attack and defense, to put together more comprehensive and deliberate performances moving forward. We will regroup and look to the opportunity to meet each of our conference opponents again.
"I was once again impressed with our midfield play, particularly Emily (Thompson) and Holly (Chang-Northway)."
Next for the Boxers is a Wednesday night match-up versus George Fox at Hanson Stadium. Start time will be 7 p.m.
