FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Pacific and Whitman battled 110 scoreless minutes to a 0-0 deadlock in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hanson Stadium.
The same score result moves Pacific to 3-9-2 overall and to 3-5-2 in the Northwest Conference. The Missionaries fall to 1-8-5 on the year and to 1-4-5 in conference action.
It was the sixth overtime match of the year for the Boxers (they are now 2-2-2 in free time matches). It was also the sixth extra time game for Whitman, and five of them have ended in a tie.
Whitman had 17 shots on the day to Pacific's six, but only two of them were on goal. The Boxers had one shot as Haley Case (Whitman) and
Kailey Hifumi (Pacific) shared shutouts in the net.
The visitors had the best opportunities to score late in the contest.
With two and a half minutes left the Missionaries had an open goal from 15 yards out and it sailed just wide left. With 20 seconds remaining off a corner kick in a crowded box, a Whitman shot sailed just high and wide right. In the first overtime, Kathleen Daily-Jensen fired a shot off the top of the cross bar and she again had a long range shot in the second overtime that was saved by Hifumi.
The Boxers will return to the field in in less than 24 hours when they host Whitworth on Sunday at noon.
