TACOMA, Wash. — Conference leading and undefeated Puget Sound retained its position as the Northwest Conference front runner in women's soccer with a 2-0 win over Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
The Loggers scored once in each half in front of 137 fans at East Field to improve to 12-0-4 on the season and to 8-0-4 in the NWC. The Boxers dropped to 3-7-2 in league play and to 3-11-2 on the year.
Amalia Acord-Fey got the home team on the scoreboard first in the 36th minute. After taking a pass from Annie Prickett, her shot from the right side found the upper left corner of the net. Shortly after the halftime break, Jacquelyn Anderson got in the scoring column with a similar shot from the right side, but found the low post on the left hand side.
Earlier this season, when UPS was ranked No. 8 nationally (NCAA Div. III), the Boxers tied the Loggers 0-0 in double overtime in Forest Grove. The Loggers are now ranked No. 22 while second place Pacific Lutheran is listed at No. 17.
Puget Sound out-shot the Boxers 14-5 and 5-2 in shots on goal. Lauren Thomas earned the shutout in the net for UPS.
The Boxers will have a short turnaround as they return home for a Sunday afternoon match at Hanson Stadium with Lewis & Clark. Start time is noon.
