Pioneers score in OT to top Boxers

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Scoreless for 97 minutes, Lewis & Clark's Kylie Carera broke the deadlock and ended the match at the same time giving the Pioneers a 1-0 victory over Pacific in women's soccer action at Hanson Stadium.

Carera ended the Sunday afternoon rain soaked match with her fifth goal of the season, taking a pass from Isobel Fikso and pushing it past Boxer goalkeeper Ari Bali. The win moved L&C's record to 5-6-1 in the Northwest Conference and to 9-6-1 in 2015. The Boxers fell to 3-8-2 in league play and to 3-12-2 overall.

Hifumi had previously stopped five Pioneer shots in a solid effort. The Pioneers sent 21 shots towards Hifumi, five of them on goal. Pacific had five shots on the day, but none of them needed to be saved by Lewis & Clark keeper Sandra Alvarenga, who recorded the shutout.

For Pacific, it was their seventh overtime match of the year. They are now 2-3-2 in extra time matches.

Next match for the Boxers will be on Sunday, November 1 at Linfield. Start time will be noon.
