FOREST GROVE, Ore. — For the second game in a row, the Pacific men's basketball team topped 90 points and won big during a 92-54 non-conference win on Tuesday over New Hope Christian at the Stoller Center.
The Boxers, who also won 90-50 in its season opener over Macalaster on Saturday, improved to 2-0 on the season. New Hope Christian is now 3-4 on the year.
Skyler Burgess had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds while teammate
Nate Olowo was close with eight points and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Burgess, a 6-5 senior forward, hit eight of ten shots and six of his rebounds were on the offensive end.
The Deacons hit their first three trey attempts and led 9-8 in the early moments. But after a
K.C. Harrison basket put the home team up 10-9, the Boxers would never trail again the rest of the night. NHC's first five baskets were beyond the arch, but they soon went stone cold and Pacific began to pull away. The Deacons had only one field goal in the first half that was inside the arch, and they didn't get that until just over a minute was left before intermission.
The Boxers led at the break 42-25 and scored the first eight points of the second half to seal the verdict. Their final 38-point margin equaled their biggest lead of the night.
Joining Burgess in double figures was Harrison with 14,
Bobby Ahern with 12 and
Rafe King with 11. Harrison also had five assists. Pacific shot 60 percent from the field and owned the boards with a 57-25 edge.
Isiah Large and Kainoa Peterson led New Hope Christian with 14 points each.
Pacific will head to northern California this coming weekend for contests at Menlo on Friday (7:30 pm) and UC Santa Cruz on Saturday (5 pm).
