Boxers roll in opener, 66-48

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Pacific overcame a four-point deficit in the second quarter with a 16-0 run and cruised from there to a 66-48 season-opening women's basketball victory over New Hope Christian on Tuesday night at the Stoller Center.

Junior post Sarah Curl had 27 points and seven rebounds to pace the Boxers to the victory in head coach Jennifer Mountain's Pacific debut. New Hope Christian is now 3-2 on the year.

The Deacons held a 20-16 lead in the second stanza before the Boxers put together a pair of runs to salt the game away. They outscored their visitors 15-0 through the rest of the quarter to take a 31-20 halftime lead. The Boxers also scored the first point of the second half to complete a 16-0 blitz, where they held the Deacons scoreless for eight minutes and 23 seconds.

As soon as that run ended with back-to-back buckets by New Hope Christian, Pacific went on another run--this time 18-0 to lead 50-28 at the end of three quarters.

Curl hit 12 of 19 shots and also had three steals. She was joined in double figures by Kyla Siri who had 14. The Boxers out-rebounded the Deacons 41-26. Jessica Logan led the visitors with 23 points and Taya Harbick added 16.

The Boxers will continue non-conference play this Friday, traveling to Eugene to take on Northwest Christian at 5:30 pm. They return home for a Sunday afternoon match-up with Carroll College at 2 pm.
