PORTLAND, Ore. — Pacific closed out the calendar year of the 2015-16 season by shaking off a little rust during a 100-48 non-conference men's basketball victory over Portland Bible College on Tuesday night at City Christian Gymnasium.
The victory was Pacific's fifth straight as they improved to 8-3 on the season. It also got them back on the court for the first time since Dec. 20, and for the last time until they resume Northwest Conference action on January 8 against No 2 nationally ranked Whitworth.
Portland Bible dropped to 0-14 on the year.
The Boxers didn't allow the Wildcats much time to believe that might get their first win of the season. The visitors scored just 15 seconds into the contest and then proceeded to race out to a 19-0 lead. Portland Bible didn't get into the scorebook until nearly nine minutes had run off the clock. The Boxers led 52-18 at the halftime break, shooting 64 percent from the field with nine different players registering scores.
Pacific led by as many as 55 points in the second half before settling for the final 52-point margin. 13 different players scored for the Boxers, led by
Rafe King's 17 points and six rebounds. King hit four of eight three-point attempts.
Nate Olowo was a perfect seven-of-seven on the night for 15 points, while
K.C. Harrison added 12 points and five assists.
Skyler Burgess had 12 points, all scored in the first half. Freshman
J.J. Spitler, playing in just his third varsity game, was a perfect four-of-four from the field and nailed all three of his trey attempts to tally a collegiate best 12 points.
Pacific converted 67 percent of its field goal attempts and was 11 of 20 from beyond the arch. The Boxers also out-rebounded the Wildcats, 37-16. Tyrell Lee led Portland Bible with 15 points.
The Boxers next host Whitworth (Jan. 8) and Whitman (Jan. 9) in a pair of key conference games at the Stoller Center. Friday's game will tip off at 8 p.m. and Saturday's contest will start at 6 p.m.
