FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Pacific used a trio of treys to jump start a second half rally for a comeback win over George Fox in men's basketball action on Saturday night at the Stoller Center, 79-64.
The victory keeps the Boxers unblemished in Northwest Conference play at 2-0 and they improved to 5-3 overall. George Fox is looking for its first win, now at 0-6 on the young season and 0-2 in the NWC.
The Bruins went into the locker room with a 39-34 margin at intermission, during a first 20 minutes that saw neither team with a lead larger than six points. The visitors then went on a 8-0 run to start the second half pushing its lead to 47-37.
But Pacific then heated up in front of the home crowd, drilling three consecutive three-pointers on three trips down the court--while keeping the Bruins out of the scoring column on three straight possessions.
K.C. Harrison hit the first bomb, followed by two straight from
Bobby Ahern to pull the hosts within one point (47-46). A few moments later,
Michael Garcia added a trey to tie the game (51-51).
A few trips up and down the court later, Garcia hit an NBA-length shot behind the arch to give the Boxers a cushion that they wouldn't give up (58-55). When Ahern knocked down his fifth trey of the night with three and a half minutes left, the Boxers had a 71-61 lead and essentially had salted the game away.
Ahern finished with 19 points, hitting five of ten treys.
Skyler Burgess led all scorers with 22 points and 16 rebounds. He had a double-double by halftime, with 14 points and 10 boards. Harrison had three treys for 11 points, while
Michael Joseph had 11 rebounds and six points.
Pacific nailed 11-of-26 three-point attempts and the Boxers out-rebounded the Bruins, 46-21.
JJ Lacey had 14 points to lead GFU and Rico Thomas added 11.
Pacific will return to non-conference action on Tuesday, hosting Evergreen State at 7:30 p.m.
