Bruins' Pitching Shuts Down Boxers To Close Series

Box Score

FOREST GROVE – George Fox provided Pacific little chance to get the offense going Sunday as three Bruins' pitchers limited the Boxers to just three hits to complete the sweep of their Northwest Conference baseball series with a 4-0 win at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.

Taylor Dunn, Michael Hirko and Tom Zarosinski each allowed one hit and was backed up with a pair of two-run innings in the third and fourth.  Dunn earned the win, allowing the one hit and three walks while striking out three in five innings of work.

After the Bruins chased Pacific's first two pitchers, the Boxers saw a trio of freshmen shut down the offensive production.  Joey Angyus (Fr., Portland, Ore.) allowed two hits and a walk while striking out in 3.2 innings.  Dylan Miller (Fr., Corvallis, Ore.) allowed two hits in one inning and Wyatt Moore (Fr., Riverside, Calif.) allowed one hit and struck out one in his one inning.

Both of George Fox's runs in the third came with two outs.  Clay Mott reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on Ansel Webster's single to left.  Zach Rapacz walked, went to second on Webster's hit and scored on Jakje Thran's single.

In the fourth, Kadyn Nannini led off with a single.  Gabe Louthan sacrificed Nannini over to second, but reached safely after the throw to put him out went high.  Nannini scored on a wild pitch and Lauthan plated on Mott's fielder's choice.

Pacific saw their best scoring opportunity wiped out in the fourth.  Walker Olis (Jr., Burlington, Wash.) led off with a single up the middle, but was erased on Brown's fielder's choice.  Brown was then erased on Tanner Mansell's (Jr., Lakeport, Calif.) fielder's choice before Mansell was picked off to end the inning.

Jon Inman (Fr., Canby, Ore.) took the loss in his first start for the Boxers, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks in 2.2 innings of work.  Thran went 2 for 3 to lead George Fox, while Mott and Nannini also finished with two hits.  Donnie Bradley (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.), Olis and Moore had the Boxers' three hits.

With the loss, Pacific dropped to 1-5, 0-3 NWC.  George Fox improved to 5-5, 3-0 NWC.

Pacific heads north to Tacoma, Wash., for their second NWC series of the season.  The Boxers will play at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday and Sunday.
