WALLA WALLA, Wash. – In just her third official college tennis match Sunday, Jelena Vidovic (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) knocked off one of the conference's top players to lead Pacific in an 8-1 Northwest Conference women's tennis loss to Whitman at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.

Competing in the No. 2 singles flight, Vidovic rose to the occasion to knock off Morgan Lawless in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.  The win allowed Vidovic to improve to 3-0 in singles as she won both matches over the weekend.  Vidovic and partner Kaitlyn Lomartire (So., Portland, Ore.) also provided for the Boxers' closest match in doubles as the duo fell 8-6 to Lawless and her sister, Courtney.

"The ladies fought hard today and had some close battles," said Pacific Assistant Coach Karen Wells.  "Jelena made a strong showing, scoring the decisive win over a crafty opponent.  It was a great experience for our young team, one we are definitely going to build on in the coming weeks."

With the close win at No. 1, the Missionaries matched easily through the doubles.  Erin Bell and Katrina Allick collected an 8-1 win over Sidney Smith (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) and Mai Kobayashi (Fr., Waikoloa, Hawaii) at No. 2 while Jenna Dobrin and Allie Wallin were 8-3 winners over Carlee Rhodaback (Jr., Albany, Ore.) and Kanani Kea (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) at No. 3.

Lomartire engaged Dobrin in a hard fought match at No. 1 singles as Dobrin went on to the 6-4, 6-4 win.  Wallin was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Smith at No. 3 and Bell scored a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kobayashi at No. 4.  Alexandra Sigouin added a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rhodaback at No. 5 and Jenna Gilbert scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kea at No. 6.

Pacific returns to the home courts next weekend, hosting Puget Sound on Saturday at 1 p.m., and Pacific Lutheran on Sunday at 11 a.m.
