Box ScorePORTLAND, Ore. – Pacific started slow but finished fast Monday as a 3 for 4 afternoon by
Donnie Bradley (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) led the Boxers to a 15-2 win over Lewis & Clark for a sweep of their Northwest Conference baseball series at the Huston Sports Complex.
Â
Bradley finished the day with a double, a home run, two runs and four RBIs to lead a day that saw the Boxers (5-12, 4-8 NWC) belt out 13 hits and capitalize on five Pioneers' errors. He finished the series hitting .545.Â
Ben Duerr (Jr., Lebanon, Ore.) added two hits to finish the series hitting .533 (8 for 15) with six RBIs.Â
Fernando Careaga (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.) also had two hits and finished the series hitting .727 (8 for 11).
Â
After allowing single runs in the first and second innings,
Nathan Suyematsu (Jr., Tualatin, Ore.) succeeded in keeping Lewis & Clark at bay, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in seven innings to earn his first win of the season.
Â
Pacific had the makings for a big first inning, loading the bases with no outs thanks to a pair of errors and a hit batsman. Lewis & Clark starter Alex Heinbrodt, however, succeeded in gaining a pop-up and a pair of ground outs to quell the early threat.
Â
The Pioneers (3-16, 2-7 NWC) opened scoring in the first when Ben Beck singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by EJ Hand. Connor Eggleston made it a 2-0 game when he led off the second with a double and scored on a single by Andrew Traver.
Â
Pacific broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning. Careaga led off with a single.Â
Josh Keithly (So., Mission Viejo, Calif.) followed with a double and Careaga scored when
Ryan Colson (Fr., Richland, Wash.) reached on an error. Keithly scored on a
Cole Kanazawa (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) ground out and Duerr gave the Boxers the lead for good when his single up the middle scored Colson. Bradley followed with the Boxers' second home run of the season.
Â
Walker Olis (Jr., Burlington, Wash.) added one for the Boxers in the fifth when he singled, advanced to second on a balk and scored on Careaga's single down the right field line. Pacific added two in the sixth when
Tanner Mansell (Jr., Lakeport, Calif.) scored on a fielder's choice and Duerr scored on a single by Bradley. Olis made it a 9-2 lead in the seventh on his solo homer to left center field.
Â
The eighth inning had been big for the Boxers the entire series, and it was no different in this game as Pacific scored six. TJ Francis (Fr., Herriman, Utah) reached on an error and scored on Bradley's third hit of the game, a single to left center. Suyematsu followed with a single that scored Duerr. Suyematsu and Bradley both scored when
Dylan Wright (Fr., Gilbert, Ariz.) reached on the second error of the frame.
Â
Three consecutive walks drove in the inning's fifth run and
Matt Hopp (Sr., Portland, Ore.) ended scoring when he plated on
Ryan Sohn's (Jr., Ventura, Calif.) fielder's choice.
Â
Heimbrodt took the loss for Lewis & Clark, falling to 1-3 on the season. He allowed nine runs, six earned, on 10 hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Eggleston led Lewis & Clark at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a run.
Â
Pacific returns home this weekend, hosting Linfield for a three-game series at Chuck Bafaro Stadium. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 11 a.m. A live video webcast of the game will be available at GoBoxers.com.
