Box ScoreLA VERNE, Calif. –
Walker Olis (Jr., Burlington, Wash.) went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a double that keyed a Pacific comeback in the seventh inning as the Boxers opened their four-game baseball series with La Verne with a 5-4 win at Ben Hines Field.
Â
Olis finished the day going 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, hitting his third homer of the season in the second inning and the RBI double in the seventh to lead a nine-hit afternoon for the Boxers (7-14), who made an adjustment to 90 degree heat upon their arrival from the Northwest.Â
Nathan Suyematsu (Jr., Tualatin, Ore.) also went 2 for 3 with a run and a RBI.
Â
After both teams went quietly in the first, Olis took the third pitch he saw in the second inning over the right center field wall to put Pacific up 1-0.
Â
The Leopards (14-8) roared back to score three runs in the third. Nolan Henley started the run when his one-out single scored Andrew Douglas from second base. Jakob Thomas followed with a single and Mark Jebbia added a RBI single that scored Henley. Ben White then added a RBI single that scored Thomas before Pacific starter
Kyle Treadway (Sr., Phoenix, Ore.) retired the side.
Â
The two teams traded runs in the fifth, with Pacific scoring when
Ben Duerr's (Jr., Lebanon, Ore.) single scored
Cole Kanazawa (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) and La Verne scoring when Zach Quinone's bunt single plated Henley.
Â
After Suyematsu singled to lead off the Pacific sixth, Olis wasted little time in diving his one-strike pitch down the left field line to score Suyematsu from first. Olis advanced to third on a ground out and scored on
Josh Keithly's (So., Mission Viejo, Calif.) single to left center field. The Boxers parlayed an error into the winning run in the seventh as Duerr reached on a miscue and scored on Suyematsu's sacrifice fly to right field.
Â
Treadway improved to 3-4 on the season as he allowed four runs on 11 hits with three walks and three strikeouts in seven innings of work. Kyle Kotchik (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) earned his fourth save of the season, walking two and striking out three in two innings. Nick Byrd took the loss in relief for La Verne, allowing one unearned run on the seventh inning. Henley, Thomas, Quinones and Ben White each had two hits to lead La Verne at the plate.
Â
Pacific and La Verne will square off again with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
