Lanz Nets Four In Boxers' Loss To Tigers

FOREST GROVE – Amy Mayhugh surpassed 200-career points, while April Lanz tallied four goals in Pacific's 21-11 home loss to Colorado College at Hanson Stadium on Thursday.
 
The Tigers rattled off three goals in the opening four minutes of play before Mayhugh (Sr., Tigard, Ore.) scored on a free position chance and put Pacific on the scoreboard.
 
Colorado College responded with two-straight goals to extend its lead to four goals, but Pacific ended the Tigers run with 16:07 on the clock as Meg Chapman (So., Woodinville, Wash.) notched her lone goal of the afternoon.
 
Chapman's goal was the first of five-straight for Pacific as Mayhugh struck for three in a row to pull Pacific within a goal of the visitors. With 2:58 left in the first period, Mayhugh assisted on a goal by Lanz (So., Oregon City, Ore.), giving the Boxers a 6-5 lead.
 
Mayhugh's assist on Lanz's goal was the 200th point of Mayhugh's collegiate career.
 
Pacific's lead was short-lived as Iris Rayburn scored two-straight goals for the Tigers and put Colorado College back-up with a 7-6 advantage.
 
Rayburn's first goal, at 1:35, was the first of four by the Tigers to close out the first half and give the visitors a 9-6 lead entering the break.
 
The second period opened with a Colorado College goal by Mary Taussig, by Mayhugh continued to score as she tallied Pacific's seventh goal less than a minute after Taussig's goal.
 
Two-straight Colorado College goals were followed by goals from Mayhugh and Lanz, to keep the Boxers within three of the Tigers with 17 minutes left in regulation. Colorado College netted five-straight goals and entered the final ten minutes with a 17-9 lead over the Boxers.
 
Lanz scored with 7:38 and 4:58 left on the clock to round out Pacific's scoring on the day before the Taussig scored twice in the next minute and Madeline Pitkin scored her lone goal of the day with four seconds remaining.
 
Pacific goalkeeper Adrienne Salzwedel (So., Beaverton, Ore.) recorded 11 saves between the pipes, while also recording six ground balls and three caused turnovers on the day.
 
Mayhugh led Pacific with six goals, while Lanz netted four and Chapman scored one. Mayhugh's stat line also included two assists, while Paisley Hiefield (So., Portland, Ore.) recorded one.
 
Chapman led Pacific's field players with three ground balls, while also causing three turnovers along with Abby Talboy (Jr., Boise, Idaho) on the defensive end. Lanz and Mayhugh both finished the day with three draw controls.
 
Pacific wraps up Northwest Conference play on Saturday with a 1 p.m first draw at Puget Sound.
