Boxers Sweep Bruins On Senior Day

FOREST GROVE – Two strong pitching performances helped propel Pacific to a doubleheader sweep of George Fox as the Boxers topped the Bruins 2-1 in game one and 1-0 in game two at Sherman/Larkins Stadium.

Marissa Reichard (Jr., Forest Grove, Ore.) picked up her 14th win of the season and struckout eight in a complete game effort during game one, while Jessica Hotaling (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) tossed a three-hit shutout in game two.

Pacific seniors Kiera Melton (Sr., Pleasanton, Calif.), Kylee Oshiro (Sr., Aiea, Hawaii) and Kaitlyn Shikada (Sr., Honolulu, Hawaii) were honored between games as part of Pacific's Senior Day.

The Boxers will next see action in Spokane, Wash. at the Northwest Conference Tournament hosted by Whitworth. Pacific will meet George Fox for the fifth-straight game between the sides on April 24 at 11:30 a.m. Whitworth will host Linfield in the early game on Friday.

Game One: Pacific 2, George Fox 1
Hotaling and Megan Winans (Jr., Hood River, Ore.) both delivered two-hit games in Sunday's opener as the Boxers topped the Bruins 2-1.

After a scoreless inning and a half, the Boxers opened the second inning with Oshiro being hit by a pitch for the ninth time this season. A sacrifice bunt from Ashley Mitchell (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) moved Oshiro to second before she was swapped out for pinch runner – Caitlyn Ramiscal (Fr., Kapolei, Hawaii).

Following a Winans walk, Ramiscal scampered home to score Pacific's first run of the day as Shikada singled to the left side.

The Boxers managed to load the bases before the inning concluded, but the Bruins escaped with only one Boxer run against.

Pacific struck again in the bottom of the third when Kylee Yamamoto (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) singled to right field with one out. A two-out single to center by Mitchell moved Yamamoto to third, before Yamamoto scored on a single to left by Winans.

George Fox got onto the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, but Reichard and the Boxer defense closed out the inning with a 2-1 Pacific lead.

Reichard set the Bruins down in order in the top of the seventh, including two strikeouts to earn the victory for Pacific.

Game Two: Pacific 1, George Fox 0
Pacific was led at the plate by two-hit outings from Nalani Antonio (Jr., Kapolei, Hawaii) and Margaret Bachmeier (So., Newberg, Ore.), while Hotaling shutout the Bruins in the circle with an efficient 68-pitch showing.

The two sides battled through three full scoreless innings before the bottom of the fourth when George Fox reliever Abbie Bergerson walked Oshiro with the first four pitches she threw.

Oshiro advanced to second on a single to center from Bachmeier, before Antonio bunted her way on to load the bases. Two strikeouts looked to turn momentum to Bergerson, but Jordan Schmerbauch (So., Mililani, Hawaii) came back from down 1-2 in the count to draw a bases loaded walk and score the lone run of game two.

Hotaling and the Boxers shut the Bruins down over the final three innings as Pacific completed a Sunday sweep of George Fox.
