FOREST GROVE, Ore. - After 110 minutes of sound defense on both sides of the field, Pacific and Puget Sound battled to a scoreless tie in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hanson Stadium.
The 0-0 result moved Puget Sound to 5-0-3 on the season and to 1-0-3 in Northwest Conference action. Pacific is now 1-6-1 in 2015 and 1-2-1 in conference action.
The Loggers had 17 shots and seven shots on goal, but all were saved by Boxer goalkeeper
Kililani Kunitomo - including a shot at point blank range by Cassie Winter with just over two minutes to go in the second overtime. The hosts had four shots on the day, but none on goal.
"It was a story of two halves today," said Pacific head coach
Morgan Joseph. "We came out tentative in the first half and turned it around with a much more determined performance in the second half."
Joseph was proud of her teams defensive effort.
"Sydney (Virgen) and Breezy (Brookbank) made intelligent decisions in the backline, Holly (Chang-Northway) brought some bite and composure in the middle of the park, and Kili (Kunitomo) is playing with confidence in goal.
"Overall, this was a positive result against a solid team."
The Boxers will now have little time to rest as they head to Portland tomorrow (Sunday) to take on Lewis & Clark. Start time is noon.
