No. 2 Bruins roll Boxers

NEWBERG, Ore. — A carbon copy replay of the first meeting between these two teams, this was not.

No. 2 nationally ranked George Fox, whom Pacific played tight for three quarters during their first meeting in December, made sure there was no doubt in the return engagement rolling to a 87-50 women's Northwest Conference basketball victory on Friday night at the Wheeler Sports Center.

Undefeated George Fox improved to 18-0 on the season and to 9-0 in conference play. Pacific dropped to 8-10 on the year and to 3-6 in the NWC.

In December, the Boxers hit 7-of-7 three-pointers in the second quarter and were tied with the Bruins in the third quarter before the defending NWC champs pulled away.

Tonight, one point separated the two teams after Kyla Siri's three-pointer (6-5) with 3:48 to go in the first quarter. But the Bruins outscored Pacific 14-2 over the next four minutes and were never closely challenged again. GFU led 20-7 at the end of the first quarter, 40-21 at halftime and then poured it on in the third period--leading 73-32 heading into the final ten minutes after putting up 33 points in that stanza.

George Fox shot a sizzling 59 percent from the field and was 10-for-15 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile Pacific shot a cool 35 percent from the floor and was 6-of-17 from three-point range. The Bruins won the battle of the boards, 37-24.

Sarah Curl was the only Pacific player in double figures with 11 points. Justine Benner led four Bruins in double figures with 18 points, while Kaitlin Jamieson was close to a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds

The Boxers will return to the court tomorrow night in Salem, taking on Willamette. Start time is 4 p.m.
