FOREST GROVE, Ore. — First place Whitman used an 18-4 run at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second to pull away from Pacific 66-45 in a women's Northwest Conference basketball game on Saturday night at the Stoller Center.
The Missionaries remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0, tied with George Fox for the top spot in the NWC. They improved to 11-1 overall, while Pacific dropped to 5-8 on the season and to 0-4 in conference action.
The Boxers traded jabs through a quarter and a half with Whitman, pulling to within one point (26-25) after a basket by
Charli Elliott midway through the second quarter. But the Missionaries answered with that 18-4 run that took them through the end of the half and midway into the third quarter. In the third period alone, the visitors went on two 9-0 runs and Pacific wasn't able to threaten again.
Sarah Curl led the Boxers with 14 points and Kyla Sira added 10 counters and seven rebounds.
Nikki Gilbert dished out six assists for the home team. But Pacific shot just 29 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 42-29.
Alysse Ketner led Whitman with 14 points, while Hailey Ann Maeda had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sierra McGarrity added 11 for the Missionaries.
The Boxers will hit the road next weekend for Friday and Saturday games at Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran.
