FOREST GROVE — Pacific's sophomore goalkeeper
Kailey Hifumi recorded five saves in the rain on Saturday a Hanson Stadium, but two early goals by the No. 17 Pacific Lutheran Lutes proved the decider as PLU topped the Boxers 2-0.

The Lutes opened the scoring in the 14th minute when a header by Rachel Ross was blocked by a Pacific defender before Hailey Smoot delivered off the half volley with a shot into the roof of the goal.

Pacific Lutheran was not finished as Kelsey Hathaway broke down the right touchline before sending a low cross through the 18-yard box that was pounced on by Liz Griffith who scored to the far post in the 22nd minute.

Pacific managed three shots in the opening period, forcing PLU's Takara Mitsui into one save between the posts.

The second period saw three additional shots for the Boxers, but it was in the Pacific goal where Hifumi (Mililani, Hawaii) was able to shine as she notched five saves in the second period of play.

The Boxers next travel to eastern Washington for a match on October 8 against the Whitworth Pirates, The Boxers and Pirates are set to kickoff at noon.
