SPOKANE, Wash. — A Whitworth goal just five minutes into the second period gave the Pirates a 1-0 home victory over Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates attack pushed forward early in the match, drawing six offisde calls in the opening 26 minutes, but it was the Boxers who put the first shot on frame of the afternoon. In the 36th minute of action, sophomore
Emily Thompson (Orange County, Calif.) forced Whitworth's Sienna Tanner into the first save of the game for either team.
Thompson's look in the first period was the lone shot on goal for either team in the first half.
The Boxers forced Tanner into an early save in the 48th minute, but it was the Whitworth offense that got to celebrate in the 50th minute when McKenzie Hemp scored off an assist from Leah Corra to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Pacific managed to fire off one last shot on goal in the second period, while Pacific's sophomore goalkeeper
Kailey Hifumi (Mililani, Hawaii) was forced into six second period saves.
The Boxers travel to Walla Walla, Wash., tomorrow for a noon kickoff at Whitman.
