FOREST GROVE — Pacific junior
Weli Alamillo netted his third goal of the season in the Oregon rain on Friday evening, but Whitman tied the match in the second period before time expired on a 1-1 draw at Hanson Stadium.
After the two teams spent the early portion of the match feeling one another and the weather out, Pacific sophomore
Keilian MacCulloch (Williamstown, Ontario, Canada) fed Alamillo (Aiea, Hawaii) near the top of the box. Alamillo took advantage of the space infront of him and fired a shot to the far post for his third goal of the season in the 21st minute.
The first half continued with the two sides combining for six more shots before the period concluded, including two late shots from Whitman that were turned away by Pacific junior
Leyton Thommasen (Des Moines, Wash.).
Whitman needed only 16 minutes in the second period to find the back of the net as Paal Nilssen streaked down the right wing and sent a cross to the far post that was tapped in off the volley by Austin Betschart in the 57th minute.
Thommasen sprung into action as the period continued, recording saves in the 73rd and 75th minutes off shots from Betschart. Neither team was able to threaten the goal over the remaining minutes as Betschart's shot in teh 75th was the final shot on goal in regulation.
In overtime, the two sides combined for four shots, with the Boxers foricng a Whitman save in the first extra period and Whitman testing Thommasen early in the second overtime period.
Pacific and Whitman played to a draw for the second time in 12 days, as Pacific moves to 2-0-2 in double overtime matches on the season.
The Boxers play host to the Whitworth Pirates on Sunday afternoon, with kickoff scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Hanson Stadium.
