FOREST GROVE, Ore. — In his third collegiate start, Pacific freshman
Chris Abosamra picked up his first collegiate assist on the Boxers' lone goal in a 1-1 draw with Whitworth at Hanson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The opening period saw a couple of early shots turned away by Whitworth goalkeeper Timmy Costa and Pacific's junior goalkeeper
Leyton Thommasen (Des Moines, Wash.) before the Boxers managed to break through near the half hour mark.
Abosamra (San Diego, Calif.) streaked down the right wing and delivered a cross to the far post to a diving
Matt Kimball (Tigard, Ore.). Kimball, a junior, saw his diving header beat Costa for his third goal of the season.
The second period opened with Pacific forcing Costa in to a save, but soon turned toward the Whitworth offensive end. The Pirates pushed down the pitch inn the 60th minute, where Eric Espinoza found Austin Cassity in traffic before Cassity slotted his shot into the goal for his second goal of the year.
The two sides combined for 15 shots in the second period, but only Cassity's found the back of the net.
Two periods of overtime saw a combined six shots between the Boxers and Pirates before the two sides ran out of clock and were forced to settle for a draw.
Thommasen notched seven saves in goal for the Boxers.
Pacific will travel to Linfield on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. scheduled kickoff against the Wildcats.
