Pair of first half strikes earn Boxers 2-0 win over Bruins

NEWBERG, Ore. — The Pacific women's soccer team picked up first half goals from senior Kara Lankey and sophomore Emily Thompson and went on to topple host George Fox on a windy and wet Saturday at the Austin Sports Complex.

The Boxers offense pushed the attack early against the Bruins, earning a corner kick and firing off two shots in the opening four minutes of the match. The Boxers capitalized in the 15th minute as Thompson (Orange County, Calif.) delivered a pass that found the head of Lankey (La Canada, Calif.), who nodded the ball into the back of the net for the eventual game winning goal.

As the opening period continued the Boxers found a second opportunity to strike toward goal as Thompson delivered the Boxers' second goal of the day and her second tally of the season in the 39th minute.

George Fox looked to cut into the Boxers' lead in the second period, firing seven shots and placing three on frame. Despite the three chances at goal, the Bruins were left empty handed as Pacific's sophomore goalkeeper Kailey Hifumi (Mililani, Hawaii) was able to thwart the George Fox attack.

Hifumi recorded four saves on the day, while Lankey tallied her first goal of the season. Thompson's goal was her second of the year, while her assist was her first as a sophomore.

The Boxers head home on Sunday for a noon kickoff at Hanson Stadium against Willamette.
