A balanced attack with double-digit kills from three players – senior
Tiare Kaopua (Nanakuli, Hawaii), freshman
Karlee Duncan (Bend, Ore.) and freshman
Milana Ivkovic (Beaverton, Ore.) – led the Pacific volleyball team to a 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 win over George Fox in a Northwest Conference matchup in Forest Grove.
The win improves the Boxers' record to 13-10 overall and 7-6 in the NWC, plus it avenges an early season loss on Sept. 28 in Newberg. Pacific has now won four of its last five home matches with two more to go in 2016. The loss drops the Bruins to 4-17 overall and 2-11 versus NWC opponents.
For the Boxers, Kaopua and Duncan teamed up for five and four kills, respectively in the first set win. Sophomore
Anna VanderWeyst (Lacey, Wash.) had seven of her 13 digs, plus senior
Lia Zablan (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and junior
Karissa Komo (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) each added six.
The Boxers out hit the Bruins, .211 to .167 in the second set with four more kills from Kaopua and four from Ivkovic to lead Pacific for the two-set lead.
Pacific upped its hitting percentage in the third set with a match-high .233 average in the third set. Kaopua and Duncan had five and four kills to complete the straight-set win. It is the sixth straight-set victory for the Boxers and first since Oct. 7 against Willamette in Salem.
Next for Pacific is a trip to McMinnville on Saturday at 7 p.m. to face Linfield, who they defeated on Oct. 1.
