NEWBERG, Ore. – Pacific junior
Matt Kimball was involved in a pair of goals, scoring one and assisting on freshman
Robert Nurmi's tally, as Pacific topped George Fox 2-0 at the Austin Sports Complex on Saturday.
Â
The opening half was a display of strong goalkeeping as the two keepers combined for eight saves, the biggest of which belonged to Pacific junior
Leyton Thommasen (Des Moines, Wash.) in the 44th minute as he saved a penalty kick try from Miguel Lopez.
Â
The Boxers carried the momentum from the failed George Fox spot kick late in the first period, into the early portion of the second period as the Boxers earned a corner in the 56th minute.
Â
Junior
Weli Alamillo (Aiea, Hawaii) delivered the ball off the corner to Kimball (Tigard, Ore.), which Kimball converted into the eventual game-winning goal.
Â
A little over ten minutes later, Kimball sent a cross into the box that was finished off by Nurmi (Gig Harbor, Wash.) in the 68th.
Â
Thommasen recorded three saves after Pacific struck for the second goal of the day.
Â
The Boxers' defense and Thommasen held the Bruins off the board late, earning Pacific's fifth clean sheet of the season.
Â
Pacific returns to Forest Grove on Friday evening, with a 7 p.m. scheduled kickoff against Whitman.
