FOREST GROVE — Pacific freshman
Dakota Dantzer scored her first collegiate goal early in the second period, but the lone goal was not enough as Whitworth topped Pacific 2-1 in double overtime at Hanson Stadium on Saturday morning.
Neither offense tested the opposing goalkeeper much in the opening period, as the two sides combined for two shots on goal in the opening 45.
The second period got rolling with senior
Holly Chang-Northway (Eugene, Ore.) sending a long thru ball toward the top of the 18-yard box, which Dantzer (Murrieta, Calif.) managed to get on the end of. Dantzer calmly slotted a shot by the Whitworth keeper for the opening goal of the match in teh 48th minute.
Whitworth did not let the Boxers celebrate Dantzer's goal long, as Megan McCart sent a low cross to the far post, where it was tapped into goal by Timary Mathena in the 57th minute.
Neither team was able to find a second goal in regulation, which send the Pirates and Boxers to extra time.
Following a scoreless first extra time period, the Pirates found the golden goal in the second extra time period as Kelly Wucherer assisted on a Hannah Miller goal.
Pacific goalkeeper
Kailey Hifumi (Mililani, Hawaii) recorded five saves in the loss, while
Maria Frias (Newberg, Ore.) led Pacific with two shots on the day.
