Boxers out slug No. 11 Rhodes, 12-9

GEORGETOWN, Tex. — Pacific laced 18 hits and accepted the gift of seven errors from No. 11 ranked Rhodes to win a 12-9 slugfest on Saturday morning at the Central Texas Tournament.

The Boxers improved to 4-2 with the win while the Lynx are now even at 3-3. Pacific will play tournament host Southwestern this afternoon at Rockwell Field.

The Boxers clubbed 18 hits and survived 12 hits lashed out by the Tennessee school. Pacific used the big inning to amass most of its run wealth, tallying five runs in the fourth and five more in the eighth. In each case, the Boxers got some help from Rhodes.

Pacific scored in the second, loading the bases on three walks, followed by a sacrifice fly by Kane Ulrich. In the fourth, they took advantage of three Lynx errors and added RBI hits by Walker Olis (double), Dylan Wright and Charlie Dietrich. In the eighth, three more Rhodes errors and four Boxer hits pushed across another five spot.

Meanwhile, Rhodes worked Pacific pitching as well. Two-run homers by Bill Munson and Chris Winter, followed by a three-run blast in the ninth inning by Nathan Foshee made things interesting before Joey Angyus closed the door with a ground out and fly out.

Angyus pitched four innings in relief to get the win, improving to 2-0 on the season. But it was Pacific's offense that grabbed the headlines, paced by Olis.

Olis had four hits in six trips to the plate, two of them doubles. Five other Boxers had two hits each — Kurtis Kloke, Wright, Joey Galeno, Ulrich and Ben Roquet. Ulrich also had three RBI.

The Boxers game with Southwestern was schedule to begin 30 minutes after the completion of this game.
