ResultsPASADENA, Calif. — Knotted at 4-4, host Caltech won the final match of the day to edge Pacific in a non-conference women's tennis match on Monday afternoon.
The Beavers improved to 4-4 with the win, while the Boxers drop to 4-7 overall. Pacific has one more match to wrap up their four-game Los Angeles road trip, taking on Occidental on Tuesday at 4 pm.
Pacific won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead early.
Kaitlyn Lomartire and
Danielle du Plooy topped the Chen sisters (Vinci and Sophie) at No. 1 (8-4), while
Chantelle Baclay and
Kanani Kea won a tight one against Julie Reisler and Cecelia Andrews (8-6).
Lomartire added another point for the Boxers at No. 1 singles, taking down Vinci Chen 6-3, 6-3.
Mai Kobayashi also captured a victory in a tough match at No. 6, defeating Andrews 6-4, 7-5.
But the Beavers would win the other four singles matches, including a pair of three-set battles. Kana Moriyama came back to defeat Baclay on court three, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, and in the final match of the day Erin Wang won the final three games of the third set to inch past
Marissa Hayashi, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
After Tuesday's match at Occidental, the Boxers will get the rest of spring break off. Next action for them will be on April 2 when they host Pacific Lutheran (1 p.m.) at the Holce Tennis Complex.
