CLAREMONT, Calif. —
Ben Roquet had four hits and drove in five runs while his Pacific teammate
Kurtis Kloke hit a grand slam and a double in the same inning, helping the Boxers out-slug Pomona-Pitzer 19-11 on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.
It was the eighth consecutive win for Pacific, boosting their record to 15-9 on the season. The Sagehens dropped to 12-8 overall.
The Boxers bashed out 17 hits and put up crooked numbers on the scoreboard in five innings--including the seventh, when the visitors scored nine times. In that inning, Kloke poked an RBI-double and then later smashed a grand slam--his seventh home run of the season. When he touched home plate, it was his 32nd RBI of the year, tops in the Northwest Conference.
Meanwhile, Roquet was having his best offensive day of the season, going 4-for-6 with five RBI.
Shane Suyama had three base knocks, including a double.
Joey Galeno,
Charlie Dietrich and
Dylan Wright had two hits each, with one of Wright's shots clearing the fence for his first home run of the season, a three-run blast.
Host Pomona-Pitzer wasn't shy on offense themselves. They actually finished with 20 hits, including four by Simon Rosenbaum.
Boxer starter
Paul Wolfram picked up the win to improve to 5-2 on the season, but he needed lots of help from his offense as he gave up six runs and ten hits.
The two squads will play the second of a three-game set on Friday, start time is 1 p.m.
