ResultsFOREST GROVE, Ore. — Linfield won two of the three tight singles battles and captured both close doubles matches to pull away for an 8-1 women's tennis victory over Pacific on Saturday afternoon at the Holce Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Wildcats moved to 2-2 on the season and in the Northwest Conference. Pacific is now 1-3 in both.
Freshman
Chantelle Baclay rallied back after dropping the first set to triumph over Marisa Doveri at No. 3 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The Hawaiian native is now 3-1 in NWC matches this spring. But Linfield's Elsa Harris pulled the same trick on PU's
Danielle du Plooy at No. 2, storming back after getting rolled in the first set to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
One singles match that did not make it to three sets but was nail biting close and very entertaining was at No. 1 singles. There, Linfield sophomore Ella Riddle clipped Pacific's
Kaitlyn Lomartire, 6-4, 7-5. Riddle is ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III west region and lists 22nd nationally.
In doubles play, Lomartire and du Plooy dropped a tight match at No. 1 doubles to Riddle and Harris, 8-6.
Kanani Kea and
Marissa Hayashi fell by the same score at No. 3 to Marisa Kume and Courtney Mostul.
The Boxers will travel to Willamette on Sunday, taking on the Bearcats in Salem at 1 p.m.
