Boxer big bats club Loggers, 19-8

TACOMA, Wash. — Pacific bashed out a season-high 25 hits and crossed the plate a 2016-best 19 times during a 19-8 baseball win over Puget Sound on Sunday afternoon at Logger Field.

Still stinging after getting swept by the Loggers on Saturday, the Boxers gained a measure of revenge with the victory and improved to 8-9 on the season and to 4-5 in the Northwest Conference. Puget Sound is now 6-10 on the year and is also 4-5 in league action.

Pacific scored in every inning except the seventh and 13 different Boxers had base hits on the day. Shortstop Charlie Dietrich, outfielders Ben Duerr and Walker Olis, and catcher Kane Ulrich all had three hits each.

Olis had a two-run home run in the second inning (his third of the season) and added a two-run double in the top of the third as the visitors built an 11-2 lead through the first three innings of play. Kurtis Kloke would hit his fourth round tripper of the season in the fifth inning, and by the time the sixth stanza had concluded, the Boxers would have an 18-2 lead.

Puget Sound would go on to score five runs in the seventh, but by then the damage had long been done.

Olis finished with three hits in five trips to the plate, a double, home run, three runs scored and four RBI. Duerr scored twice, had two RBI and a double. Kloke crossed the plate three times, drove in three runs, had the home run and walked twice.

Other Boxers with two hits included Ben Roquet, Dylan Wright and Josh Keithly. Roquet and Keithly had two RBI each.

Kyler Knieriem was Pacific most effective pitcher, working five innings of relief. He gave up five hits, two runs, didn't walk a batter and fanned seven Loggers.

Pacific will return home next weekend, hosting Lewis & Clark in a three-game series. Saturday's (March 12) doubleheader will start at noon, as will Sunday's single contest.
