FOREST GROVE, Ore. —
April Lanz and
Jordyn Godfrey scored four goals each and the Pacific defense shut down their visitors from Georgia while defeating Berry College, 14-2, on Wednesday night at Hanson Stadium.
Pacific improved to 4-0 with the non-conference win, while the Vikings dropped to 4-3 overall.
Lanz and Godfrey each had their own Texas hat trick, but it was the Boxer defense that deserved headlines as well. The Vikings, who had been averaging 11 points a game coming into the contest, took almost 40 minutes before they found the net tonight. By then, it was already 10-0 Pacific on the scoreboard, in a match that was played in a steady rain.
The two points goes down as a Pacific school record for fewest goals scored by an opponent in the 10-year history of the program.
"We played tremendous defense tonight obviously," said Boxer head coach
Wynne Lobel. "That was a very good team we played and we just didn't give them any good looks."
Pacific scored just over six minutes into the match on a goal by Brittany Bardin, and they would score six more times before the end of the half. Lanz had three of her scores in the first half and Godfrey had two in each stanza. Six different Boxers found the net, with
Paisley Hiefield and
Meg Chapman scoring twice each.
The Boxers out shot the Vikings 27-16. Goalkeeper
Adrienne Salzwedel had seven saves while defender Chapman had five ground balls, four draw controls and five caused turnovers.
Pacific will return to Northwest Conference play this weekend, traveling to George Fox on Saturday and Puget Sound on Sunday. Both games start at noon.
