NEWBERG, Ore. — George Fox won two of the three doubles matches and slipped by Pacific in four singles matches to take a 6-3 Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday at the George Fox Tennis Courts.
The victory moved GFU's overall record to 12-8 and they are now 7-4 in conference action. The Boxers fell to 6-10 on the year and to 4-7 in the NWC.
Kaitlyn Lomartire and
Danielle du Plooy picked up the first Pacific victory, winning on court No. 1 by an 8-3 count. But the Bruins took second and third doubles by the same score of 8-5, with
Chantelle Baclay and
Mai Kobayashi falling on court two and
Kanani Kea and
Marissa Hayashi taking the loss on three.
In singles play, Lomartire lost to Sarah Tuemmier, 6-1, 7-5, and Pacific also lost a battle at No. 2 when Catrina Kwong outlasted du Plooy, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Kea and
Carlee Rhodaback lost in straight sets on courts four and six respectively.
The Boxers picked up a win at No. 3 singles when Baclay ground out a victory over Ellen Pearson, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, and on court five with Hayashi's marathon three-set win over Andrea Motley, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Pacific will play its final regular season match of the year tomorrow (Sunday), hosting Willamette on the Holce Tennis Complex courts at 1 p.m.
