ResultsFOREST GROVE, Ore. — They say turnabout is fair play, and if so the Pacific women's tennis realized that and then some during a 8-1 victory over Pacific Lutheran on Saturday afternoon at the Holce Tennis Complex.
The Lutes defeated the Boxers earlier this season (5-4) at PLU. With today's win, the Boxers improved to 6-7 on the season and to 4-4 in the Northwest Conference. PLU drops to 4-6 on the year and to 3-4 in conference action.
Kaitlyn Lomartire was one of a number of Boxers to flip the scorecard Pacific's way this time around. Pacific's No. 1 singles player lost last time out to the Lutes' Caroline Dreher but this time took a hard-fought 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 win.
Danielle du Plooy (6-1, 6-1) and
Chantelle Baclay (6-2, 6-1) had easier times at No. 2 and 3 singles. du Plooy improved to 8-4 on the season in singles play with the win.
Emily Beemsterboer picked up PLU's lone win at No. 4 singles over
Kanani Kea (6-4, 6-3), but the Boxers picked up wins on courts five and six.
Carlee Rhodaback won easily at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0), but
Marissa Hayashi had to work much harder before prevailing over Lilly Le, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-6.
Lomartire and Baclay won a tight battle at No. 1 doubles, defeating Dreher and Megan Beyers, 8-6. du Plooy and Hayashi triumphed on court two (8-4) and Kea and
Mai Kobayashi cruised at No. 3 (8-2).
Pacific will play an exhibition match on Sunday against Bellevue at Holce. Start time is 1 p.m.
