Boxers Snap Losing Skid with 60-57 Win Over Willamette

Pacific women's basketball senior Karli McHone (pictured) (Glenns Ferry, Idaho) put host Pacific ahead for the fourth and final time with 2:26 to play and sealed the win with two free throws with just over a second to play to lead the Boxers to a 60-57 win over Willamette on Saturday afternoon.

The win for the Boxers snapped a 10-game losing streak with the win, who improve to 4-13, 2-5 NWC. Pacific senior Sarah Curl (Portland, Ore.) had her fourth double double of the season, scoring a game-high 28 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

McHone joined Curl in double figures with 17 points, plus sophomore Charli Elliott (Seattle, Wash.) came with 10 rebounds, eight on the offensive side of the ledger.

Elliott led a Pacific squad that had a 10-rebound advantage on the offensive side and eight in total rebounds in the win. Pacific is now 4-0 at home when they outrebound their opponents.

The loss drops Willamette to 10-6 and 3-5 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats' Alex Wert also had a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat. Reserves Marisa Hamilton and Sarah Heinly came off the bench to add 15 and 13 points, respectively.

In the final quarter, the Boxers outscored the visitors, 16-9 – including a 10-4 advantage on points in the paint - and held them to 27.3% (3-for-11) shooting from the field.

The two teams traded baskets to tie the game at 48 and for the sixth time in the contest at the 6:36 mark of the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer by Heinly put the visitors ahead before the Boxers managed to cut the deficit to one on three occasions before the go-ahead lay-up by McHone.
