Despite double-double performances by Morgan Mendicino (San Diego, Calif.) and Karlee Duncan (Bend, Ore.), the Pacific University volleyball team dropped a 25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17 decision to host Puget Sound on Saturday night.
 
The Boxers (14-6, 7-5 NWC) fell victim to a hot-hitting Puget Sound squad that hit .205 in the win. Mendicino and Duncan shared in team-high honors with 13 kills to lead Pacific. Mendicino added 13 digs for her sixth double double and Duncan had 12 digs for her ninth double double to share the team lead with Ellie Parker.
 
The Loggers (8-11, 5-7 NWC) were led by Rita Baxter and Kristen Miguel, who each had 13 kills and Melanie Siacotos added 12 in the win.
 
Puget Sound hit .233 in the opening set compared to .109 for Pacific. The Boxers evened the match at a set apiece with a 25-22 win in the second set. In the set, Mendicino had six of her 13 kills to lead Pacific.
 
The Loggers hit .222 and .306 in the third and fourth set, respectively to secure the victory.  In the final two sets, the score was tied just once and there was only one lead change.
 
Next, Pacific will travel to Linfield for a mid-week matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
