SALEM, Ore. — An overtime red card proved too much as the Boxers dropped a 1-0 decision at Sparks Field to the league leading Willamette Bearcats.

After 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Boxers (8-6-1, 5-5-1 NWC) and Bearcats (9-4-2, 8-1-2 NWC) headed to overtime, which got underway quickly with a Willamette shot bouncing off the crossbar less than a minute into the extra period.

With the Boxers down to 10 players, the Bearcats tallied the winner in the 100th minute when Max Berner-Hays scored his fifth goal of the season to end the game seconds before the first overtime period came to a close.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... A red card in the 100th minute forced Pacific to make a goalkeeper change and to play a man down. The Bearcats pounced on the advantage and fired a pair of shots on frame, the second of which found the back of the net.

STAT OF THE GAME... Pacific's goalkeepers made seven saves on the day, with senior Leyton Thommasen (Des Moines, Wash.) recording six and sophomore Jack Orum (Eden, Utah) making one in relief.

NEXT UP... The Boxers open the final homestand of the season on Friday night with a 7 p.m. scheduled kickoff against the visiting Whitman Blues.
