Blues top Boxers with 1-0 scoreline

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — A first period goal proved the winner for Whitman as the Blues topped Pacific 1-0 at Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium on Friday evening.

Whitman (7-7-3, 6-3-3 NWC) scored the winner in the 33rd minute when Ridley Eastland-Fruit slotted in his first goal of the season off an assist by Jacob Fritz.

The Boxers (8-7-1, 5-6-1 NWC) were unable to respond, placing one shot on frame following the Blues' goal as senior Matt Kimball (Tigard, Ore.) forced a Whitman save in the 52nd minute.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... Whitman goalkeeper Owen Davis-Bower made a save in the 52nd minute on a shot by Kimball, erasing the Boxers' final chance on frame.

STAT OF THE GAME... Five Pacific field players went the full 90 minutes on Friday evening, with junior Eamonn Hartmann (Portland, Ore.), senior Weli Alamillo (Aiea, Hawaii), senior Peter Vizzoni (Snohomish, Wash.), junior Shawn Opfer (Elk Grove, Calif.) and freshman Braden Kojima (Kamuela, Hawaii) staying on the pitch for the full duration of the match.

NEXT UP... The Boxers celebrate Senior Day on Sunday with a noon kickoff against Whitworth, in what will be the Boxers' final home match of the season.
