Warner Pacific scored the first five points of the second half for its first lead and held Pacific to 27% shooting in the final second half en route to a 64-60 win.
The Boxers (0-1) fall in their season for just the second time in the last six years. Freshman
Courtney Carolan (Spokane Valley, Wash.) had 20 points and seven rebounds in her Pacific debut to lead the Boxers. She was joined in double figures by
Jenee Brown, who added 12 points and six rebounds.
The Knights (1-4) scored the first five points of the second half to take a 34-31 for their first lead of the game. They stretched the lead to as much as 12 on the strength of a 12-3 spurt midway through the third quarter.
Three players for Warner Pacific scored in double figures including Bailey Allen, who had 13; plus Grace Prom and Michaela Pin each added 10 in the win.
Pacific spread the scoring among six-different players en route to an early 12-4 run in the opening quarter. The Boxers shot 42.9% for the first 10 minutes and held the host Knights to 28.6% shooting. After the opening ten minutes, Pacific held a 22-11 lead over the host Knights.
Warner Pacific scored the final nine points of the first half to cut the Boxer lead to 31-29 at the halftime break. The Knights carried the momentum in the second half, scoring six of the first eight points for its first lead of the game. Late in the game, the Boxers would manage to cut the deficit to as little as two.
Next, the Boxers will travel to Santa Cruz, California to face Cal Lutheran (Sat., Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m.) and UC Santa Cruz (Sun., Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m.).
