The Pacific University women's basketball team dropped a 69-59 decision to Northwest Christian on Wednesday night.
The Boxers (0-4) were led by junior
Megan Wesel (pictured/Winchester, Calif.), who came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points in the home opener. Sophomore
Alexa Hinkley (Portland, Ore.) added 14 points, four rebounds and three blocked shots in the loss.
The Beacons (6-0) landed three players in double figures including Anamaria Virjoghe and Morgan McKinney, who each had 15. Katerina Brejchova added a double double, scoring 13 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.
Pacific started the second quarter on a 6-1 run for a 15-14 lead with 7:00 to go in the opening half. The two teams traded the lead back and forth before five-straight points by Wesel put Pacific ahead 25-20 with 2:50 left in the second quarter. However, the Beacons had an answer with eight unanswered points for a three-point halftime lead, 28-25.
Northwest Christian scored the first six points of the second half and lead for nearly the remainder of the contest. Four of the six points came from McKinney to spark the visitors from Eugene. The Beacons built a lead as large as 12 but there was plenty of fight in the Boxers' lineup.
A 10-3 spurt to start the fourth quarter by the Boxers tied the game at 51 with 6:51 to play. Again, Northwest Christian retaliated with eight-straight points to regain the lead for the rest of the contest.
The Boxers will next travel to Evergreen State in Olympia, Washington on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday marked the only home non-conference game for Pacific, who will start conference play on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. against rival Linfield.
