Game Recap: Softball |

Chan, Masters have multi-hit outings as Boxers fall to Warriors

FOREST GROVE — Freshman Morgan Masters recorded the first multi-hit game of her collegiate career, as the Boxers dropped a pair of games to the visiting Corban Warriors at Sherman/Larkins Stadium on Saturday.

The Boxers will next see action on February 18, when Pacific visits Concordia (Ore.) for a double headers, scheduled for a noon first pitch.

Game One: Corban 9, Pacific 1 (5 inn.)
Cindy Chan (Torrance, Calif.) notched a pair of hits, while Katelyn Macaitis-Smith (Salem, Ore.) drove in a run as the Boxers fell 9-1 in five innings to the visiting Warriors in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.

Corban tallied one run in the opening inning before Kaitlynn Donaca (Oregon City, Ore.) reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the first. After stealing second, Donaca advanced to third on a ground out by Becca Bernard (Roseville, Calif.) and scored when Macaitis-Smith grounded out to short.

The Warriors responded with seven runs in the second inning, and added a ninth run in the top of the fourth.

In the circle, Pacific starter Cassie Apple (Modesto, Calif.) struck out two Corban hitters in 1.2 innings of work.

Game Two: Corban 9, Pacific 5
Amanda Machado (Folsom, Calif.) and Masters (Tenino, Wash.) both delivered two hits in the Boxers' 9-5 loss in game two of the twin bill.

After Corban scored one run in the first, Pacific got on the board in the bottom of the second when Machado led off the frame with a double to centerfield. With one out and Machado on second, Masters singled to left center allowing Machado to score Pacific's first run of the game.

The inning continued with two outs when Madi Hedlund (Kirkland, Wash.) singled to right to move Masters to second.  Caitlyn Ramiscal (Kapolei, Hawaii) kept the inning rolling for the Boxers with a single to center to plate Masters before the final out of the inning was recorded on a play at third base.

Corban tied the game at 2-2 in the third on a home run, but the Boxers regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Machado led off the inning with a single to left, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Haley Kodama (Pearl City, Hawaii). Kodama was able to reach first on the sacrifice bunt thanks to a Corban fielding error.

Pinch runner Emily Peters (Forest Grove, Ore.) ran into a tag at the plate for the first out of the inning, but Kodama was able to score as Trisha Snydar (Lynden, Wash) singled to right.

Corban took a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the fifth, until Macaitis-Smith tripled down the right field line with two outs. A throwing error during Machado's plate appearance allowed Macaitis-Smith the opportunity to tie the game at 4-4.

Corban struck for four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh, taking a 9-4 lead into the Boxers' final scheduled trip to the plate.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ramiscal reached on an error and reached second on the ensuing scramble to recover the throwing error. Ramsical advanced to third on a ground out, only to score two pitches later as Chan grounded out to short.

Chan, Masters, Snydar and Ramiscal all drove in a run during game two, while Ashley Martin (Sutherlin, Ore.) and Hedlund shared time in the circle for the Boxers.
