The Pacific University women's tennis team split its two matches to begin its 2017 season on Saturday in Forest Grove.
The Boxers (1-1, 0-1 NWC) started the day with a 5-4 win over College of Idaho, ending its day with a 9-0 loss to #26 Whitman.
In the 5-4 win over College of Idaho,
Kaitlyn Lomartire had her hand in a pair of victories. The senior from Portland teamed up with sophomore
Chantelle Baclay (Lahaina, Hawaii) for an 8-4 win over sisters' Erin and Megan Huffman at No. 1 doubles. Lomartire was a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 winner over Megan Huffman. A win at No. 3 singles by freshman
Sophia Nishimura (Honolulu, Hawaii) over Allie Boyd, 6-2, 6-4 to even the match at 3.
The next win for Pacific came at No. 4 singles when sophomore
Marissa Hayashi (Hilo, Hawaii) posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Hayley Boyd. Next, freshman
Johanna Wilson (The Dalles, Ore.) sealed the win for the Boxers with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 win at No. 6 singles in her Pacific debut.
In the Boxers' other match of the day, the nationally-ranked Blues posted a 9-0 win over the Boxers. Four of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets and the other two were by injury default.
The schedule gets tougher for the Boxers, who next will face #18 Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. in Portland.
